  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from anisa alamia -- But here’s my dirty secret: I somehow : As a person who did not learn this way, but wants to help tutor kids in math, this is invaluable. If you’ve never worked this way, looking at a piece of homework with a bunch of squares is really confusing. I also know some moms who could use this when they try to help their kids with their homework. My only issue is with the fractions, I honestly just did not understand how the number line is supposed to help if you’re the one drawing the line? But here’s my dirty secret: I somehow, in moving around during those years and switching school, never really learned fractions solidly the way everyone else did. So I’m using that chapter for myself!! ( Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2018 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from J Lucia -- Once you’re comfortable with the instructional strategies : This is a very convenient book to have on hand IF you already have some background knowledge about number talks. If not, I would suggest Parrish’s books first! Once you’re comfortable with the instructional strategies, this book helped me attach number talks to all of my mathematical units in 4th grade. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- Classroom Ready Number Talks is a useful guidebook for teachers of third : for adults too!!!) ( Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2018 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Xan. Belzley -- Excellent alternative learning plan for beginning math : This is an extraordinary book for teaching math in a way that is intuitive to students, rather than laying down a series of abstract rules that students are expected to memorize and punished for failing to understand. It helps visual and kinesthetic learners develop a deep understanding of math that will let them build on future math lessons. There are several studies demonstrating that students learn best when they connect information to prior knowledge. While accuracy is emphasized, the process is more important than the answers. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Wendy Valderman -- If you're looking for a good book or guide to teach kids some math principles ... : If you're looking for a good book or guide to teach kids some math principles this would be an excellent purchase to make. I've always found the way math is explained in normal textbooks and to kids in class to be a bit one size fits all, this is a great option if the kid in your life is a more visual learner. This book is excellent if you want to create a great foundation that can be built upon later, fundamentals are key as many of these principles will be used over and over again in a child's academic career. I think this is great for both kids who may be struggling or just a great way to get your child ready for what's to come, it'll surely help either way. • 2.0 out of 5 stars from Jenny W -- Not what I expected : . I could have easily created random problems on my own. I was looking for something more preplanned and lined up for me so that I didn't have to do that myself. I was hoping for something more along the lines of the Sherry Parrish number talk books. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from MSKT -- Great alternative to the original book : LOVING this book. I've used the original number talks book, but the examples in this book are a lot better. It also serves as more meaningful review and front loading ( Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2019 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Wiggims -- I'm extremely impressed : Rarely does a book like this exceed my expectations. This one certainly did. Intelligently written (even down to the readability of the font and page layout!)--it is a fabulous resource for a parent or a teacher. Clear, concise, and comprehensive. Beats my kids' textbooks! I recommend it highly. Best purchase I've made on Amazon in ages. ( Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2019 )

Excellent to supplement a short morning discussion or provide students with an opportunity to work independently/small groups to dig deeper into their thinking. Great discussion starter.
